Lantern Landscapes

This set of cards doesn’t look too complicated, but the struggle was real. It wasn’t a technical issue, but rather too many ideas to wrangle in.

I started out floundering with the lantern and background color combination. Then I waffled with ink blending vs watercolor for the foliage. After that I couldn’t settle on using vellum or glitter cardstock. Finally, I wasn’t sure if it was begging to be a shaker or to be left sweet and simple. The decision fatigue was seriously wearing on me.

So… I just went with all of it!

Two handmade greeting cards featuring lantern designs. The left card has a blue background with a lantern filled with sequins and festive foliage, while the right card showcases a winter scene inside the lantern with a wooden house and surrounding trees.

I’m sure I could have made a dozen or more variations of this card. The lantern die was surprisingly inspiring and fun to create with.

I can already imagine using this lantern for a cozy autumn or spooky Halloween project. Masculine projects with a camping, scouting, or military theme would go over well in my house. I also see it working for inspirational messages of remembrance, warmth, illumination, guidance, or finding a way through the dark. My favorite idea is a Lady with the Lamp (Florence Nightingale) themed graduation or thank you card for a nurse. Now how cute would that be?!
