Reveal: Rainbow Painted Stairs!

Today I’m sharing a little non-papercrafting project. It’s a peek at what’s going on in the backroom of my garage.

I’ve admired all the colorful painted and wallpapered stairs I’ve seen sprawled on the internet for some time, and finally I have a space I can create my own version.

Here’s a peek at the attic stairs we started with…

The treads of the stairs would have been quite expensive to replace, so we opted to clean, sand, and seal the existing ones.

The risers on the other hand needed some tweaking. They didn’t extend completely to the side walls, so dirt and bugs were getting in and becoming trapped in the sealed off space below.

Originally, I wanted to add peel & stick wallpaper, so we purchased smooth primed risers and cut each to length.

During the many many hours I spent waiting on my husband at Home Depot, I often found myself mesmerized by the spectrum across the top of the Behr paint display. I brought home dozens of swatches to play with.

After several more trips to Home Depot, and returning to the garage over and over to see the colors in a different light, I settled in on 16 beautiful shades.

Since it wasn’t going to take much of each color, we purchased paint samples of Behr Marquee Satin in each of the shades.

All the risers were painted, attached to the stairs, and finally a bit of caulk was added to ensure no gaps were left behind.

I am in love with how it turned out. I can’t wait to share what else I’m working on in this room with you very soon!

Until next time… stay crafty!
